Admissions

St John’s Catholic Primary School is in the Diocese of Arundel and Brighton. We serve the parish of St John the Evangelist in Horsham. The primary purpose of a Catholic school is to educate children in line with the Catholic faith and traditions of the Church. However we are a diverse and multi-cultural school. We welcome children and their families from all backgrounds, faiths and heritage. Our admissions policy explains how places at St John’s Catholic school are allocated.

If you have any questions regarding admissions please speak to the Admissions officer at school: office@stjohnshorsham.school

New Starts

Applications for a child starting in September 2024 open on Monday 2 October 2023, and will close on Monday 15 January 2024 at 11.59pm. We encourage parents to arrange a visit to the school; there are a number of open days booked or we can organise a tour for a different date if required.

If you are a Catholic or other religious denomination family, you must also fill in a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) and return it to the school. This will help us to rank your application in accordance with the school’s admission policy.

Applying for a Reception place for September 2024:

  1. Parents/carers can apply for a school place on the West Sussex website (School places – West Sussex County Council). The site also contains details about how to apply on paper.
  2. Completed applications should be sent directly to the West Sussex admissions team. Please note that late submissions will significantly reduce the chances of getting a place at your preferred school; late applications are processed after those received by the official closing date.
  3. Parents/carers should also complete and return a Supplementary Information Form (SIF) to the school for each child. This can be downloaded below, or paper copies can be obtained from the school office or during your tour of the school.
Please note that returning a SIF does not alleviate the need to complete the West Sussex application process.
  4. If a child can be offered a place at more than one school, he/she will be offered a place at the school ranked higher in the preferences on the application. If none of the preferences can be met, a place will be offered at the catchment school, where possible, or the nearest school to the child’s home with places available, if the catchment school is full.
  5. Parents will be notified of placement offers on Tuesday 16 April 2024. Late applications will not be processed/notified until after 15 May 2024.

Moving to St John’s within the school year

If you require a school place during the year (e.g., when moving house) please refer to the West Sussex website regarding in-year admission. We work closely with the West Sussex admissions as the school does hold a waiting list for some year groups and admission is based on our admissions policy. Please call the school to enquire about places; we can offer advice and support through the process.
