The Sixth Sunday of Easter — John 14:15-21: THE ADVOCATE WHOM THE FATHER WILL SEND

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘If you love me you will keep my commandments. I shall ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you for ever, that Spirit of truth whom the world can never receive since it neither sees nor knows him; but you know him, because he is with you, he is in you. I will not leave you orphans; I will come back to you.
In a short time the world will no longer see me; but you will see me, because I live and you will live. On that day you will understand that I am in my Father and you in me and I in you. Anybody who receives my commandments and keeps them will be one who loves me; and anybody who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I shall love him and show myself to him.’

Parents – St John’s Catholic Primary School

On Wednesday the 6th of May a group of children from Year One and Two took part in a Target Sports event at The Bridge sports centre. It was a lovely morning where the children were able to try various different sporting activities. As usual our children were superbly behaved and were a credit to our school.
Well done children!   A big thank you to Brad and Mrs Burke for accompanying them to this event.
On Thursday, Miss Honey and Mr Lane, with the invaluable help of Mrs Slater-Beadell and Mrs McClymont made the frames for what we’ll be carrying for the Children’s Parade. We’re very excited with our theme of ‘Sweet Shop’ and they all worked hard to make enough items for all the children from years 2 and 4 to carry.
Our artist Sandrine will be coming in to work with the classes on Wednesday 20th May to cover the frames.
Families of year 2 and year 4 children, please save the date for the Horsham Children’s Parade – Sunday 5th July (morning).

As Children’s Commissioner, I am writing to ask you to ensure all of your children complete my new survey, The Big Future.

Under the Children Act 2004, it is my role to promote the views and interests of children in England, and I have done this so far by conducting the two largest ever children’s surveys: The Big Ask and The Big Ambition.

Now, for the first time, hundreds of thousands of children will be eligible to vote in the next general election, the biggest change to the franchise in half a century. Yet just one in five children say politicians listen to them. That’s why I’m launching my final survey, The Big Future.

Your students should complete the survey here: http://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigfuture.

I want to make sure that I hear from as many children as possible, aged 0-18, from all backgrounds, in all schools and colleges, and in every part of the country. To do that, I need your help.

I am asking children about the changes they want to see in their communities, their biggest concerns, and their hopes for the future. More than anything, I want to know what they think a good childhood should look like today.

I am asking you to share the survey with all the children, parents and carers in your school or college community. Schools and colleges that achieve high participation rates will receive formal recognition for their contribution to amplifying children’s voices and encouraging civic engagement, and a summary of their pupils’ responses.

To support you to do this, I have created a pack of resources which include an introductory video, a lesson plan, and FAQs, which are available on my website. I would be grateful if you could ensure that every child in your school or college has taken part before the deadline of Friday 23 October.

I will be publishing my findings next year, and they will be used to advocate at the highest level for solutions that children want to see, to the problems that they tell me are most important to them.

Thank you for your support.

Dame Rachel de Souza

Children’s Commissioner

Thank You + Summer Fair Update ☀️
Huge thank you to everyone who helped at the Church refreshments morning on 3rd May, and for all the cake donations — especially the yummy homemade ones! We know the bacon butties were missed 😅 but we still made an amazing £188.23 profit despite fewer volunteers and being a bank holiday weekend.
Coming up:
 •  Card Sale – Playground, next Friday from 3pm. All cards £1, including Father’s Day cards.
 •  Break The Rules Day – Wednesday 11th June. Bring summer fair donations. Each year group has a category to help us get a good mix.
 •  Jazzy Jars – All year groups please make one! Fill with wrapped sweets, crafts, stationery, party bag prizes etc. Kids love winning these.
Summer Fair – Saturday 27th June
 •  Set up: 9am
 •  Fair: 11am–2pm
 •  Pack away: by 3:30pm
Each year group has a stall and will need 2–3 volunteers per half-hour slot. We also need help with set-up from 9am and packing away after. If everyone does just 30 mins, we all get to enjoy the fair! Grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings welcome to help 🙌
Stalls by Year Group:
 •  Reception – Ellie: Jazzy jars + cards
 •  Year 1 – Sarah: BBQ
 •  Year 2 – Becky: Tombola
 •  Year 3 – Laura: Raffle + Golden Bucket
 •  Year 4 – Yulia: Drinks
 •  Year 5 – Amie: Loom bands, tattoos, face painting, spin wheel
 •  Year 6 – Hannah: Games – Hook a duck, throw a sponge, fish game
We also need:
 1.  Gazebos – Volunteers to help put up Friday 26th 5–7pm + loans for the day
 2.  2L plastic bottles – Please save for gazebo weights
 3.  Donations – Letters in office if your workplace can donate prizes or if you can pop into shops, bars or restaurants. Let us know so we don’t duplicate — we’ve got some fab prizes already!
👉 To help: Message your year group rep on WhatsApp to let us know if you can help and grab your half-hour slot and to offer set-up/pack-away.

Many thanks

The friends of St Johns (PTA)
