Insert Extract from The Wednesday Word

Adapted from Matthew 5:13-16, The 5th Sunday in Ordinary Time, Year A

Jesus said to his disciples: “You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled underfoot by men. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill top cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in the sight of all people, so that, seeing your good works, they may give the praise to your Father in heaven.”

RESPECT assembly – mental health

Our RESPECT assembly this week was about mental health in preparation for children’s mental health week next week.

This year’s theme is ‘a place to be’. We talked about what mental health is and what belonging means. We shared ideas on how we can help everyone to feel welcome and ensure that nobody is alone. We also discussed the importance of speaking to our trusted adults.

To support children’s mental health week, children are invited to wear something green or yellow (or wear school uniform with yellow or green accessories).

Many thanks for your continued support.

Lockdown procedures in school

Just to make you aware that in school this week we have been talking to the children in each class about what would happen if we needed to secure the school for various reasons, in order to keep our staff and children safe. We have spoken about senarious such as a dog or fox being loose on the playground and shutting doors and windows to block entry points. In the modern world it is important that we have safeguards in place should they be required. This is common practice across all educational settings and we will do a calm lockdown procedure drill next week. The children have been assured that there is nothing to worry about and it is best to be prepared in the unlikely event of an emergancy. If you have any questions about this do ask your class teachers.
