Taken from Luke 10:38-42 The Sixteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus came to a village, and a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. She had a sister called Mary, who sat down at the Lord’s feet and listened to him speaking. Now Martha who was dis-tracted with all the serving said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister is leaving me to do the serving all by myself? Please tell her to help me.” But the Lord answered: “Martha, Martha,” he said, “you worry and fret about so many things, and yet few are needed, indeed only one. It is Mary who has chosen the better part; it is not to be taken from her.”

Local MP Visit
We were very pleased to welcome our current MP John Milne into school this morning along with Councillor Kasia Greenwood. It was a wonderful opportunity for all the children to hear about the role of an MP and the importance of voting and how a Government operates. KS2 then had the opportunity for a Q&A session. The questions were intelligent and showed a real care for our society and an interest in the world around them. Many thanks to Kasia Greenwood for helping to organise this valuable experience.

End of Year Message
As we reach the end of another school year, we take a moment to reflect on the many blessings, achieve-ments, and memories we’ve shared at St John’s. This has been a year full of learning, laughter and growth—a journey made richer by the dedication of our staff, the enthusiasm of our children, and the unwavering support of our families.
To all our children, thank you for the joy and energy you bring to our school each day. You have worked so hard, and we are incredibly proud of all you accomplished, both in the classroom and beyond.
A very special farewell goes to our wonderful Year 6 leavers, Miss Davies and Mrs Feitz. You have been a cherished part of the St John’s family, and we will miss your leadership, your kindness and your unique contributions to school life. As you move on to the next exciting chapter in your journey, we pray that you carry with you the values, faith and friendships you’ve built here. Remember, you will always have a home at St John’s.
To our staff and families, thank you for your tireless support and for walking this path with us. Together, we have nurtured a community rooted in love, faith and hope.
We wish everyone a safe, restful and joyful summer break. May God bless you all, and we look forward to welcoming you back on Thursday 4th September.
With very best wishes
Mrs Farr
Headteacher.
Year 4 Trip
to Ford Recycling
Year 4 had a really interesting visit today to a recycling centre. They learnt about the importance of recy-cling and the amazing machinery behind the process. It linked beautifully with their previous learning about sustainability and our work around Stewardship of our planet. The children were a credit to the school and asked some fantastic questions to deepen their knowledge and understanding.
Reception Ice Lolly Sale
Thank you to everyone who supported our Reception class ice lolly sale this week. The children had a great time making and selling them to you.
A Sad Goodbye
We are very sad to say goodbye to Mrs Feitz at the end of the term. She has been with us for four years and has worked as a class LA and a 1:1. Her hard work and dedication has been never ending and the contribution she has given to children, their families and staff has been greatly appreciated. She is leaving to further develop her role within education and we wish her all the very best in her new job, we know she will be fantastic. We thank her for being part of the St John’s family.
Phones and Ipads
Please can we remind you that whilst Yr 6 children’s phones are allowed in school (if they are walking to or from school independently) providing they are dropped to the office and collected at the end of the day (by the child, not a friend), Ipads for afterschool playdates are to be transferred between parents and not brought into school.
At the start and end of the day, our reception office gets incredibly busy and we cannot take responsibility for additional devices.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Year 5 Water Aid
Year 5 have been doing their class fundraising activity this morning. They delivered an assembly yester-day to teach the school all about Water Aid and the vital work the charity does around the world. Year 5 have raised just over an incredible £500 to support further work by the charity. A massive thank you for all that supported their efforts. As you can see from the photos the children fully embraced their water related challenges and had a blast! Well done Year 5 and Mr Mccurrach!

PTA AGM Meeting—Wednesday 11th September, 7.30pm
All are welcome to join us for the 2024/25 PTA AGM, taking place at school (classroom to be confirmed)
As we wrap up the school year, we want to take a moment to say a huge THANK YOU to all our wonderful parents, carers, and supporters. It’s been a fantastic year of fundraising, and we’re so grateful for all the time, effort, and generosity shown by our school community. Without the PTA, there would be no Christmas or Summer Fairs, discos, movie nights, ice pops! But it’s not just about the fun—these events raise vital funds that go straight back to the school to support books, classroom resources, playground equipment, learning experiences, and more.
Next year, we’d love to do even more—but we need your help! Whether you’ve got 20 minutes or a cou-ple of hours, every bit of help makes a huge difference. The more people who get involved, the more we can do for our children.
Some of our currently PTA members will be stepping down this year after years of amazing support so we’re looking forward to welcoming you to join us and kickstart the 2025/26 year with fresh ideas and energy!
Enjoy the summer holidays—see you in September!
With thanks, The PTA Team
