Wednesday Word
Adapted from John 11:1-45, The 5th Sunday of Lent, Year A
There was a friend of Jesus named Lazarus who lived in the village of Bethany with his two sisters, Mary and Martha, and he was very ill. The sisters sent a message to Jesus. But, by the time Jesus had arrived at their home, Lazarus had died. As soon as Lazarus’ sister, Mary, saw Jesus
she threw herself at his feet, crying. At the sight of her tears, Jesus said in great distress, with a sigh that came straight from the heart, “Where
have you put him?” So they took Jesus to Lazarus’ tomb. Jesus wept. “Roll the stone away,” he said. Then he cried out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” Then Lazarus, who had been dead, came out with his feet, hands and face wrapped in strips of burial cloth. Jesus said, “Unbind him: let him go free.” Many of the people there saw what Jesus had done and believed in him.

Year 6 Leavers Fundraiser Bake Sale
A big thank you to the wonderful team who put together the delicious Bake Sale to raise funds for the Year 6 Leavers events. We all enjoyed yummy cakes after school on Friday and the money raised will go towards some important events for our Year 6 Leavers as we celebrate their final year of primary school!
Thank you for your Fairtrade Donations!
A huge thank you to everyone for your very generous donations for the Fairtrade Colour Day. Thanks to your fantastic support we raised an amazing £302.30!
This will help to make a huge difference for farmers and their families around the world.

We are excited that we are getting new playground equipment in the KS1 front playground after the Easter Holidays. The trees that were removed a few weeks ago are being replaced with a climbing structure and slide. The works for this will start on Wednesday April the 15th and will mean that the access to the playground by the reception classroom will be unavailable and access to the playground will need to be from the road entrance, both at

the beginning and end of the school day whilst the works are happening. Please be mindful of this area until the works are complete to ensure everyone stays safe. The children will be using the back playground and field during playtime until the equipment is safely installed and ready to be used.
Year 5 enjoyed investigating clay techniques this week in preparation for making their Henry Moore inspired sculptures next week.

On Wednesday the 18th of March a group of Year 6 children went to St John’s Church to support the SVP at the Lenten soup lunch. They served the visitors with a smile and showed impeccable behaviour interacting with the visitors. Thank you to the children for representing our school so well and thank you to Mrs Burke for accompanying the children. This is always a lovely parish event to support

Miss Miles had lift-off with an out-of-this-world classroom reveal this morning! The children came in and were zoomed out of Horsham straight into space with the amazing decorations as they set about role playing astronauts and making artwork related to their new topic of ‘Space’!

Catholic School Inspection Report
Please see the following link to our recent inspection report: St John’s Catholic Primary School (126039) 20-03-2005
With many thanks to all for contributing to such a positive report.
This week, our RESPECT assembly was about internet safety. We talked about what the internet is and the different ways we can use it, including how we can access it through devices.
To help us to stay safe online, we talked about the SMART rules.
S = Safe (is this safe? Am I sharing too much information?),
M = Meeting (do not meet people we have spoken to online if we have not met them in person before),
A = Accept (be careful of accepting and clicking on pop ups, accepting requests from strangers),
R = Reliable (is what I am looking at reliable and from a trusted source?),
T = Tell (if anything makes you feel worried or uncomfortable, always tell a trusted adult).
We talked about the importance of the ‘tell’ rule and how even if we have done something that we maybe shouldn’t have done or have not followed all of the SMART rules, we must tell our trusted adults because they can help us.
Please can you encourage your child to remember and use the SMART rules whenever they are using the internet to help them to stay safe online.
Miss Miles
On Wednesday the 18th of March a group of Year Four children attended an indoor athletics event at The Bridge sports centre.
They took part in various field events including standing long jump, vertical jump, speed bounce and chest throw. The running events included sprints, obstacle race, hurdles and up and over race. Eleven schools took part and our children performed superbly well. We came an impressive 5th overall, behind four of the larger schools in Horsham.

Well done children! A BIG thank you to Rosie and Aurelia in year 6 for coming to the event and helping, alongside other children, to run the activities.
Thank you to Brad for supporting the children too. We were both very proud of all the children.

International Storytelling and Pyjama Day!
Last Friday, the children listened to “Little Red Hen” in some of the many different languages spoken at St John’s:
Spanish, Polish, German, Lugandan (from Uganda), Czech, Slovak, British Sign Language, Ukrainian, Hungarian, Urdu, Farsi, Italian, Lithuanian and French.
The children were able to follow the story as the storytellers used props, pictures, gestures and taught the children a few words, phrases in their language. This is a great way to celebrate our many languages at St John’s.
A huge thank you to these parents, staff and Young Interpreters who were fantastic storytellers:
Mrs Lee, Mrs L-G, Mrs Charlton, Mrs Apolenar, Mrs Cekelova, Mrs Martin, Mrs Lane, Mr Petz, Mrs Aminian, Mrs Namiya; Santi, Arina, Pola, Antoni, Mati, Sienna, Adam, Daniel, Lilybeth, Jacinta, Aaron, Tymon, Aurora, Elsa, Nicholas, Maria, Salvo and Sofia.
It was great fun to see everyone in pyjamas! A huge thank you to everyone who donated money towards new reading resources for the school. We raised a whopping £300!
