St. John’s Houses

Our four houses are named after the living creature symbols that represent the four evangelists – Angel, Lion, Ox and Eagle.

We place a high value on learning about working as a team and the benefits of good behavior, so the School House System is an important part of our whole school ethos.

Your child will join one of the four school houses (siblings are always placed in the same house). The houses and their colours are:

  • Angel – blue (Matthew)
  • Lion – yellow (Mark)
  • Ox – red (Luke)
  • Eagle – green (John)

Year 6 children are given the responsibility to serve as House Captains, with a House Captain and Vice Captain elected for each house.

Throughout the year, children receive points which contribute to the house competitions. Your child will receive house points as rewards for things such as good behavior, good choices, and good attitudes. They can also win extra points for their house through:

  • Sports Days
  • Attendance
  • Quizzes
  • Competitions

Every week, we have a school-wide assembly where we count the individual house points and announce the winning house for the week. Then, at the end of the year, all points are counted and the winning house for the year is announced and awards are distributed. Having the house system enables children to develop their sense of belonging and identity, allows age groups to mix with a common purpose and promotes St. John’s values.
